The story of Evolve Skateboards

Evolve Skateboards was born in Australia through sheer passion and obsession for finding the link between snowboarding, surfing and all things carving on land. After scouring the world for the best electric skateboards Evolve was developed out of a frustration over the clumsy, oversized, heavy & low quality parts used on electric skateboards that were on the market.

With a desire to successfully combine the best in longboard design with the lightest, smallest and most efficient in electric motor technology we’ve spent 5 years meticulously considering, designing, testing and optimizing every part to produce what we believe to be the best electric skateboards in the world.

With 12 distributors now servicing over 30 countries, Evolve Skateboards are enjoyed by many loyal customers around the world.

As our core business belief is to constantly ‘evolve’ we are excited to offer you only the highest quality products and accessories at an affordable price.

-----OUR STORY-----

Creator Jeff Anning first discovered motorized skateboards while checking the surf at his Gold Coast local 6 years ago. He immediately searched the internet and sought to buy the best electric skateboard he could find.  While he enjoyed the concept of a new way to carve that was akin to snowboarding or surfing, it ultimately didn’t live up to his expectations as someone who had enjoyed skateboarding since he was a kid. The deck, trucks and wheels of then current electric skateboards for sale were oversized, heavy and low quality, severely affecting the quality of the ride.

After more research he uncovered an obvious neglect in the marketplace for one basic fundamental – an efficient motorised skateboard that was built using real skateboard parts. He set to work designing a mechanical set up that would attach to a quality longboard and spent the next 3 years reworking every part of the setup until he was satisfied he’d created the highest quality electric carving machine possible.

When testing various electric motor skateboards he found that a high wattage motor skateboard was only necessary for boards that were using heavy lead acid batteries along with poor quality and heavy trucks, wheels and decks. Interestingly he also tested quite a few electric skateboard motors whilst trying to determine the ideal wattage to use for his boards and what he found was that quite a few of them actually rated quite a bit under what they were labeled as (one of the leading brand's 500 watt motors only rated at 220 watts). Ultimately Jeff found that a quality 350 watt brushless motor was able to reach a top speed of around 38 km/h which goes to show that you don't need any more power in a motor when all the mechanical components are top notch and all optimized to work perfectly in unison. The added bonus is that our boards are much quieter than others on the market due to this.

In early July 2012 the first run of boards were sent to customers who had preordered in anticipation around the world. By mid July the first run had completely sold out.  The focus now is to keep producing the best and highest quality electric skateboards and accessories possible while Evolve-ing with advances in technology.
